Sure, the Nikon D90 isn't going to be any huge surprise when it arrives at this point, but it looks like whatever ta-da moment Nikon had planned just got upstaged by USA Today, which is running its piece on the new cam just a little early, complete with quotes from Nikon's senior technical manager. Nothing we don't know about here: 12.1 megapixels, 3-inch Live View screen with HD video recording and a kit price of $1,299. Not bad -- and that HD video mode certainly sounds intriguing. At least detailed specs will still be a tiny surprise, eh?

Detailed specs here: http://www.nikon.com/about/news/2008/0827_d90_01.htm

I think these features will be on every new DSLR that Nikon produces.

If you're a D80 owner, it's not much of an upgrade. Otherwise, a solid camera, albiet the 6 RAW frames in the buffer is a real letdown. At 4.5 FPS, that's less than a second and a quarter...

ADR, 3"LCD and live view (shooting over the fence anybody?) make it worth for me.
Add sensor cleaning, extra megapixels and my preorder with Amazon is in!

Maybe I'll even shoot a video one day...

Does their live view have AF support?

While the live view on the 1DmkIII is only manual focus, it's brilliant to use for static subjects, you can get your focusing absolutely (and I mean absolutely as on an eye's lid, not "just" on a person's face) SPOT ON.

Great usability with the 10x zoom option.

Video would appeal to the tourist buyer so they don't need to carry two cameras one for stills and one for video. A feature that would have been handy on our tour in 2005 to reduce weight and bulk on our European Coach tour. Something worth considering if you plan a major trip and want to reduce weight and use the same batteries and charger on your tour.
