All of the 4 other flight test aircraft (apart from MSN001) will be going to Etihad - the Engine Alliance test aircraft will be re-engined back to RR for delivery. So it goes from RR to EA to RR again!
They must have got a good deal on that!

Why couldn't Airbus find an Engine Alliance customer (like EK) to take MNS007 instead of having to re-engine it for delivery to Etihad. Isn't this unsual...I don't recall a similar procedure with flight test aircraft in other programs?
Especially as they are first flying it with Trents, then re-engining it to GP7000s just to re-re-engine it to Trents. Somehow this makes no sense to me.

Yes, has been done before. Prototype of the A330-200 MSN181 had f/f with GE-engines (-202), converted to RR (-242) for flighttests and again converted to PW (-223) for delivery to OS. Still flying with OS as OE-LAO.

Quoting Scorpio (Reply 7): The 777 prototype was re-engined from PW to RR and delivered to Cathay. The first A330 was re-engined from GE to RR, also for delivery to Cathay.
Thanx for the information Scorpio. Is MSN007 a prototype or a production standard aircraft?

I can't either. Same goes for all A340s and A350s!
You are so right!!!
I saw the 346 for the first time live at the Paris Air Show - beautiful machine!

And Airbus' own 318 has been re-engined 2 times - last time for the new PW I think - can anyone confirm???

It will only be from EA to RR, as MSN009´s first flight will be with EA already.
Quoting Thorben (Reply 12): According to Flug Revue (November 2005) MSN 007 will be flying with RR engines, then be re-engined to GP7200 and after that re-engined to trents.
I agree with Thorben, that's where I got it from too. But it might have changed since then?
I guess both you and we are right . There will be 2 A380s which will be re-engined. MSN007 gets Trents first, will then get GPs and after that will get Trents again. MSN 009 starts with GPs and is later re-engined to Trents, all information according to Flug Revue 11/2005, p. 26.
I really think it is strange that they are re-engining 2 airplanes.

Yes, tehre will be only one prototype with EA engines. I'll have to check what it's engined first as then! I only heard that like all the others it's been delayed.

Looking at the pics...I guess Airbus ran out of paint or doi they need another subsidy just for that?
I guess they are letting Hamburg practise the painting. Don't forget that future A380s are to be painted in XFW if I remember correct. So maybe they are testing the procedures in Fuhlsbttel. But I really don't have a clue about it
