Whats A UA 777 Doing In Hong Kong

i was looking through the database and saw a UA 777 in hong kong. i thought UA only flew the 47s there!! is there a new route or something!!! becuase that plane would be packed!!! please someone fill me in. thanks

I hope it's carrying passengers and flying! Seriously, the NRT-HKG flight has been changed to a B777.

I thank all of you who know what their talking about. Its been that way for six months. My friend recently got promoted from B777 FO to A320 Capt. He flew there 5 mths ago if I recall right before he got promoted.

Actually far from it. I don't have the exact numbers but it's probably a fair pay upgrade. He is gaurenteed the same amount of hours so the work time isn't that bad and just has a higher pay-per-hour rate. Congrats to him.

In general its the other way around. The junior pilots get stuck on the smaller and lower paying equipment types such as the 737, A320 and get to see lots of exotic places like Omaha, while the more senior pilots tend to fly the larger and higher paying types such as the 777/744 doing primarily all international flying.

Ultimately tough its all up to seniority. If some one wants to forgo pay increase they can remain on the smaller equipment types and fly all domestic.
However, on thing to keep in mind domestic guys tend to fly and are gone for more days due to the shorter nature of flights and need to build up hours. An international person can meet their monthly guarantee with sometimes as few as 3 trips.

That is a very European thing where pay rates are based only on senority and seat, not aircraft size. In the US, it is far more lucrative and attractive for pilots to fly as long haul as possible and it also keeps them home more.

I found this to be interesting from the link for UA......

" Monthly Guarantee: 65 hours
Reserve Guarantee: 70 hours"

I was chatting with a BA 744 Captain recently (he was inclined to chat much more after I turned on my PDA and showed him a BA-744 as my PDA wallpaper...talk about getting lucky... biggrin  ), and he told me that a BA 744 Captain works around 900 hours/year of flying time....which equates to 42-43 roundtrip LHR-SFO-LHR flights per year....or 4/month.....

Does that sound accurate?
