Delta Drops JFK-AUS

Discontinued effective Nov 1st.

Seems like the JFK-Texas market is not the best for Delta, with SAT gone and IAH coming off the map next week, which leaves only a single RJ to DFW for the Lone Star state after this AUS cut.

How many flights does DL operate on this route, and with which type of equipment?

JetBlue will be the only airline serving this route non-stop...

Most people on a.net hate JetBlue. Get used to it.

Per http://timetables.oag.com/aus/

DL flies the route once per day using a CR9.

Was 2x daily E170s, then reduced to the current single CRJ900.

Somewhat interesting Delta jumped on this route pretty much in anticipation of Jetblue only a few months prior in late 2005.

Hmmm........ would I like to ride on a comfy Emb190 with live TV and XM radio, or a cramped CRJ..... Hmmmm..... No brainer there.

I have a question for anyone here that's a DL insider or who just knows anyway:
Is the direct Shannon (SNN)-Atlanta (ATL) service operating next summer? All other Irish routes on delta.com are bookable but this one but there has been no announcements...

Nearest airport: Kerry Airport (KIR), Killarney/Tralee

You mean cut on DL? Because as expressed elsewhere in this thread, B6 still flies JFK-AUS and I doubt have any intentions of pulling this route. Especially now.

For O&D, all other things being equal, I agree its a no brainer. However DL maintained routes such as this for onward connections. Of course, a passenger in AUS trying to get to Europe or beyond on DL would likely go through ATL anyway.

IAH coming off the map next week,

JFK-IAH is still bookable next week, mid-September, October, November, etc. CO is dropping JFK-IAH in the second half of September though...

Did this change DL's mind about JFK-IAH then? I think a CR9 is just fine for the route. Same seat, similar service to a mainline jet. The only thing I'd complain about would be having to gate check my carry-on. Or does DL not require that on the CR9s? I've had to gate check my bag on every RJ flight lately.

Next flights: MCO-IAD-SYR-ORD-MCO on UA/UAX, Thanksgiving week

The CR9 isn't all that much bigger than any other CRJ, so if you had to gate check your bag on others, you'll probably have to gate check it on a -900 as well.

My brother took the flight when it was E170 and loved it, but wouldn't do so again on a CRJ. Too long on the less comfortable plane.

I figured that. I thought the redesigned CR9 NextGen interior might've had larger bins, but I guess not. Oh well!

It does. Unfortunately, that's not what Delta/Pinnacle/Freedom/Whoever is operating on this route. It's the old CR9.

Cheers,
Dave in Orlando

Delta didn't announce the route being cut, you did. I never saw the flights zero'd out...not sure where you got that information from.

Sure they did.

If you have access to DLnet it was announced as part of various schedule changes the week the thread was posted.

It really is amazing how little capacity there is from Texas to JFK today:

*AA has 2 daily DFW-JFK flights
*DL has 1 daily DFW-JFK flight (on a regional carrier)
*CO has 1 daily IAH-JFK flight (DL is dropping its IAH-JFK)
*B6 has 2 daily AUS-JFK flights (DL is dropping its AUS-JFK)

I guess that's typical, as with the myriad of international flights available at DFW and IAH, there's not much need to connect via JFK (and ORD, ATL, and MIA are also viable connecting options).

Did B6 pull HOU-JFK?
