Zoom 767 Impounded - Airline Ceases Operations

Upon arrival in to YYC, the 767 was offloaded, then towed to a parking pad. Shortly after a police vehicle was seen covering up the registration on the aircraft. Rumors are flying around YYC that this aircraft has been repossesed.

It was destined for YVR, and ACA and WJA appear to be oversold on YYC-YVR.

Anyone have any info?

well, zoom's site shows that the flight from CDG/Calgary has not arrived in Vancouver, with no mention of a estimated arrival time. Scheduled arrival time would have been 1425, and it is now 1756 in VAN.

All other Zoom flights appear to be operating per schedule...except for YVR/YYC to GLA/LGW which is obviously the route this plane was to take

There's a Zoom plane here in YVR scheduled to go to CYYC before I depart, I shall try and update everyone with regards to what happens to it.

So in otherwords you heard it from a friend of a friend who works in ops, who is a pilot?

Apparently this has to do with financing, and with Zoom restructuring its financial investments to ensure future growth. Though if it weren't able to pay off ILFC and leasing aircraft, I'm not sure how positive this sounds.

Were there pax in the terminal waiting for the outbound flight? That'd be an interesting explanation for the gate agent to give....

there is a post on pprune, and i hate quoting other people's posts from another forum, but it also adds that their planes were 'almost denied access' to YYZ. Again, how true any of this is, who knows.

And if it is true that it was to do with finance restructuring, it seems a little extreme that restructuring would lead to repossessing a plane. Again, all speculation and rumors until something official comes out.

Ouch! Hopefully this ain't the end of operations from little Ottawa-based Zoom, our only "home" airline (even though they no longer operate most of their flights out of here), but reading the article, it doesn't look good at all!

I was @ YYC this afternoon, and watched a Zoom 767 take off sometime between 2:30 and 3:00PM... is it business as usual?

different plane. Sounds like it was only 1 plane that had its lease terminated. One can assume the rest of the fleet is operating normally, for now at least. However, with a fleet of only 5 planes, losing one is quite the problem.

I expect that we might soon see some routes not operating at all with the lack of aircraft. Things don't look too good for Zoom.

There's still absolutely nothing posted on the Zoom website.
You would think that the company would wan't to immediately deter any concern about liquidiity or operations now that the repossession has hit the press. Since they're silent with regard to the whole episode, I fear the worst.

So do I the comment in the article about not being refuelled due to an outstanding debt doesn't look good either - nor does only 69 pax on a 767!

It will be interesting to see if ILFC will follow Aercap and repossess their aircraft. That would mean the end of Zoom.

The aircraft in YYC is *NOT* owned by ILFC.

ILFC have *NOT* repossessed any aircraft from Zoom.

Seems like Zoom might be zooming out of the sky sooner than later.  sarcastic
