Hey All.
Was just curious about the reasoning behind BWIA's new colors. Personally, it is the ugliest plane I have ever seen in good light and in bad. It only looks decent on the 737-800 which is a fairly frequent visitor to JFK.
But again, asking if it has a meaning or if it is just a bunch of colored circles.
Thanks for the help!

The colors are supposed to be representing.. the Steel Pan, which is the instrument of Trindad and Tobago.. and is just about as old as the airline..(60+years), I think the sun is represented by the yellow in the rear. Can't say i know exactly what the green is for .. but hey u got 2 out of 3

JBLUA320,
those "coloured circles" represent the musical arrangement on the surface of a Steelpan.
The steelpan is our ( trinidad's ) national instrument and was invented here in early 1900's. As a matter of fact, the steelpan is the only musical instrument invented in the last century.
Steelpan and steelbands also play a very important role in our number 1 cultural export....Carnival.
Maybe you're familiar with Carnival as in places like Rio ( Brazil ), Caribana - Toronto, London England, and maybe with a bit of similarity...Mardi Gras.
And that shows the importance of the instrument......and good cause to represent our national airline.
As a matter of fact, if you've seen the old BWIA's livery, you'll also notice the steelpan on the vertcal stabilizer ( tail fin) surrounding the letters BWIA.
as for the colours..well, the green ( teal ) represnts the caribbean water............usually the colour of the water seen at coral reefs, and the yellow represents the caribbean sunlight

But I think the colors look a lot better on the L-1011 than on the A340

I saw BWIA's shiny new A343 land for the first time at LHR this morning.
SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
I admit the photo we've seen here made the plane look a bit ugly, but in the bright sunshine we had at Heathrow today she was stunning!
She was early too. I looked up from on top of the T2 car park and (because she was still quite high) thought I was just looking at another VS A343 on approach. Then as the a/c grew closer I could see the big steel drum on the front and as she landed the colours looked brilliant! That colour scheme GLOWS in the sunlight- really impressive. I was even luckier than that though because she docked as that T3 gate that's right near to the T2 carpark, so I had a really perfect close up view.
She was worth getting up at 6am to see!
I'll miss the Tristars, but I'll look forward to seeing BWIA's new toy again!

She was at H9, known to the ordinary travelling public as - Gate 9 Terminal 3.
Did you get any photos? I was there in the spectators viewing area on the Queen's building but didn't have a camera. Though I know a few people around me got some shots of it. Hope one of them appears on airliners.net

Well Jet blue i hope that you understand the PURPOSE of the colour BWIA's scheme. Inbound I dont think that I could have done a much better job my self in explaining the colours my self. However to me Caribbean sea is a lil more blue than green i mean when u fly over tobago into trinidad in fact any other island except trinidad (u all have some green other coloue going due to the proximity to south america) that the sea is blue and but hey the thing look good. I also think that the scheme serves as a form of advertisement like BA's tail (absolutely beautiful)
P.S Jet blue the airlines motto is sharing our warmth with the world with a Steal Pan (not a tin drum Yyz717) bening the sun and the sea. ( can exactly remember)

When I first saw the BWIA new colors, I thought the drum on the tail and near the nose was a slice of orange or other citrus fruit.
