It has been confirmed by the MOD in a letter to Ming Campbell, the local Leuchars MP, that 6 Sqn will be the first Leuchars Typhoon Sqn and will officially stand up on 1 October 2010. No doubt the first Typhoons will arrive at Leuchars in Spring/Summer 2010 and will likely be factory fresh Tranche 2 FGR.4s. The other two Leuchars Sqns will also stand up as Tranche 2 deliveries progress. The allocation of Sqn Numbers for these two has not yet been decided, however 25, 43 and 111 must all be competing for the spots.

I really do hope 111 Squadron gets Typhoons. One of the more famous RAF Squadrons. No. 56 and 74 are also favorites of mine, though I don't know if there're even remote plans to have them use the Typhoon.
Do you happen to know what the long range plan is; how many RAF squadrons are supposed to get Typhoon and whether any squadrons other than No. 6 have even been selected yet?

Well 56 was the Tornado F.3 Operational Conversion Unit, which has now stood down.
I doubt that will be a Typhoon unit.
74 Sqn has been stood down for some years after a period as a second line unit.
The question perhaps should be, what famous RAF Sqns will be on unmanned air vehicles in the future, as 39 Sqn has been, from Canberras to Predators.
The thought came to me on seeing the BAe Mantis mock up at Farnborough, loaded up with Hellfire's and bombs, one of which could be going to Afghanistan next year.

The 56(R) Sqn numberplate has already been reallocated. It is now stood up as the C2 ISR OEU. In full this this the intelligence/reconaissance Operational Evaluation Unit of the Air Warfare Centre. Unlike other OEUs they do not have their own aircraft, but borrow Sentry/Nimrod/Sentinel aircraft for trials from the front line Sqns.

As stated above, only 2 tranches have been confirmed for the RAF which equals 5 frontline Sqns + OCU.
3, 11 and 6 are named. The other two frontline Sqns from tranche two have still to be decided (as stated above there are 3 contenders). As and when negotiations are complete on tranche 3, then the RAF will make further decisions on the Sqns and bases required.

Is the RAF in a position similar to the USAF, not likely to get as many Typhoons as it wants while the USAF doesn't appear to be getting as many F-22As as it wants?

Negotiations on tranche 3 are ongoing between UK MOD (Typhoon Integrated Project Team at DE&S Abbey Wood), the other partner nations MODs and the Manufacturer. Hansard says these negotiations are expected to continue throughout the year. So I guess that no-one will know anything till very late this year or early next.
