I am almost positive it was on Airliners.net where I found a link which showed a large map that was interactive in a way that all bases were "dots" and color-coded to indicate the type of air base - fighter, bomber, transport, etc. Then, if you click on a base, it brought up info of what was located at that base, and then you could click on a link which you could view the base via Google Earth.

I've searched the forums but can not find this website for the life of me  Smile Can anybody help me out on this one?

Thanks!!

This is probably the thread you're thinking of:

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/military/read.main/61714/

Unfortunately, that interactive website, http://russianairfields.com, has either been moved or shutdown:

I had it in my bookmarks and the link goes nowhere. Perhaps the KGB "politely" asked the guy to shut it down  Smile

Yep - Thats probably it  Smile

I had a bad feeling that was the one. I had it bookmarked a while ago but I lost some bookmarks when I had a computer problem.
Darn.... oh well. Thanks for the help though. I found that same thread too while searching.

Their airbase in Tiksi in northern Siberia is where they launch all their Bears for their Artic flights.

There is a VVS/PVO google earth community thread which gives the situation for those organisations in the 1980s

Scramble also have a good Order of Battle (click link on left hand side this site, then click on the various Military districts). You can copy the lat/long of the bases into Google earth/maps or just view their default expedia map.
