(cn 120370) This is supposed to be "Werknummer" 120370, "Yellow 6" of JG 400, and is displayed at the Deutsches Museum. It was originally sent to Britain, where it had received the RAF Air Ministry number AM210. It was given to the Deutsches Museum by RAF Biggin Hill Station [Canon 7D + EF 24-105 f/4L USM]. |

191659 / 15 (cn 191659) One of the real stars of the superb Museum of Flight. The Komet was a rocket powered interceptor aircraft with a performance far better than any allied aircraft of the time though it was hampered by a very short flight time. It entered service in May 1944. The wheeeled undercarriage dropped away on take-off with the aircraft landing on a skid in a similar way to that which most gliders do. |

D-1636 / PK-QL (cn 1/1996) photographing the glider replica of the Me-163 Komet rocketplane was more like dancing in the sky due to its fairly large rate of decent. |

191316 / 6 (cn 191316) Me 163 Komet is the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft ever to have been operational. Over 300 aircraft were built, however the Komet proved ineffective as a fighter, having been responsible for the destruction of only about nine Allied aircraft. This "yellow 6" was surrendered at Husum airfield operated by II./JG 400, which was officially disbanded on 19th April 1945, but remained there until the war´s end. This Komet then changed many airfields and units in England. In 1964 was despatched to Science Museum in London and in a very dark hall is still exposed. |

D-1636 / PK-QL (cn 1/1996) The only airworthy Komet. Though this is only a glider replica, it is the sole chance to see the unique shape of this aircraft in the sky. Chosen as I was looking for something special as my 1000th photo on a.net :-) |
