X4859 / PQ-N Nicely displayed in a memorial garden located on what was formerly RAF Grangemouth, this replica Spitfire represents an aircraft of 58 Operational Training Unit which was formed here in late 1940. The real X4859 first flew on December 17, 1940 and joined 58 OTU on September 15, 1941. Sadly the aircraft crashed just over two months later, killing its Polish pilot Sergeant Eugeniusz Lukomski. |
