N791LM (cn 0001) I was at the Blackbird Air Park when suddenly this black project hybrid airship took off. It has been secretly built by Skunkworks as a heavy-load carrier. To gain more span to act like a wing, the P-791 is three pressurized lobes joined together. It uses four air cushions as landing gear, located on the outer lobes. It appears to have four propellers-two at the tail and two on the sides. A hybrid airship derives most of its lift by lighter-than-air gas, the rest by its shape and span. |

N5008F (cn S60A-3281) What a view! This air-to-ground overview depicts the launch sites of the International Balloon Fiesta. As this was the last day/event of the fiesta called 'Mass Ascension,' due to the shower passed through the area at the break of dawn, most of special shape balloons have canceled the flight. Still, as you can see, many balloons are now preparing for launch. This photograph was taken from "That a way" flown by David Bobel (N4508B) who took me to the air for the first time. I shall never forget this moment |

N87SB (cn SPI-3001) The Smokey Bear special-shape hot-air balloon unfortunately got caught then shredded on the top of this 700-foot radio antenna on the last day of the 2004 International Balloon Fiesta. An extremely scary incident for the pilot and his two passengers. You can see the two passengers already making their way down the tower and the pilot stepping from the basket onto the tower. Note that everybody was safe and unharmed. A freak windshear is suspected to be the cause of the accident. |

LX-BPO (cn 1045) LUXGSM World Balloon Trophy 2009 - LUXGSM World Balloon Trophy is a competition that takes place over several days. The Saturday evening always ends with a big festival around the Lake of Echternach. The highlight of the evening is a great firework display over a selection of balloons participating into the competition. This show by nice summer weather is always a delight for the audience who were still numerous this year. |
